UPCOMING EVENTS

Ride your bike or take transit to SunFest... or do both!

MPO Partners with DDA for
FREE SunFest Bike Valet

For the second year, the Palm Beach MPO will partner with the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA) which operates a FREE bike valet service during SunFest. The bike valet service is located on North Clematis St., around the corner from SunFest's Clematis St. entrance gate.

Ride a bike from home, the office, or take your bike on Tri-Rail and ride from the station. Leave your bike parked in a secured area like a VIP, and avoid costly parking fees and traffic gridlock. You'll discover just getting to SunFest is half the fun!

The MPO will distribute backpacks with safety reflective strips and bike lights for valet patrons.

Bike Valet Hours

Wednesday, April 27 - 5:00 - 10:00 PM
Thursday, April 28 - 5:00 - 10:00 PM
Friday, April 29 - 5:00 - 11:00 PM
Saturday, April 30 - 12:00 - 11:00 PM
Sunday, May 1 - 12:00 - 10:00 PM

*The bike valet is open 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after the official hours of SunFest.

Ride or Take Your Bike on Tri-Rail
With Special Late Night Train Service

Tri-Rail is adding two late southbound trains from the West Palm Beach station during SunFest: Saturday at 11:45 pm, and Sunday at 10:20 pm. Traveling to SunFest by Tri-Rail couldn't be easier, and you won't have to leave before the last concert or the Sunday fireworks finale! From the West Palm Beach station, ride the downtown trolley Green Line to the festival, or take your bike on Tri-Rail and park it at the free bike valet. Tri-Rail will also offer a discounted $5 flat rate fare on Sat., April 30 and Sun., May 1. Click for Tri-Rail information.

Ride or Take Your Bike on Palm Tran

Palm Tran offers several bus routes with stops at the Quadrille Blvd. and Clematis St. intersection, right down the street from SunFest. Each Palm Tran bus accommodates two bicycles on the front of the bus. Click for Palm Tran information.

Register Events for National Bike to School Day on May 4

May 4, 2016 marks the fifth annual National Bike to School Day, and builds off the 19 years of success of International Walk to School Day. Last year, more than 2,600 individual events were registered on the following website: www.WalkBiketoSchool.org. Bike to School Day registration is free and open to all individuals and organizations planning a 2016 Bike to School Day event. Registering an event provides organizers access to a variety of downloadable materials including stickers, certificates, badges and activities.

Bike to School Day gives communities across the country the opportunity to bicycle to school together on the same day. The event is part of the movement for year-round safe routes to school and encourages bicycling to school as a healthy way for kids and families to make their school commute.

MPO Governing Board Meeting - April Highlights

At the meeting of the MPO Governing Board on April 21, 2016, the Board welcomed a new member, City of Boynton Beach Mayor Steven Grant. During the process of adopting revised Bylaws for each of the MPO advisory committees, the Board voted to change the name of the Bicycle-Greenways-Pedestrian Advisory Committee to the Bicycle-Trailways-Pedestrian Advisory Committee. The intended purpose of this name change was to reflect inclusion of the MPO's commitment to waterways transportation projects.

The following presentations were made to the MPO Governing Board. Click to view the slides:

PUBLIC COMMENT OPPORTUNITY

Draft UPWP and Budget
Fiscal Years 2017-2018

The Palm Beach MPO is seeking public review and comments for a period of 30 days leading up to adoption of a Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) and Budget for Fiscal Years 2017 and 2018 by the MPO Governing Board on May 19, 2016. The UPWP serves as the MPO's business plan and budget for the upcoming two fiscal years beginning July 1, 2016. It is a statement of work identifying the planning priorities and activities to be carried out by the MPO. The UPWP includes a description of the planning work and resulting products, who will perform the work, time frames, costs and sources of funds. Federal sources provide 95% of the funding, with state and county funds making up the balance.
Click for more information on the UPWP and to provide public comments.

TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS & HIGHLIGHTS

Upcoming Roadway Closures Along the FEC Rail Corridor
Click for current information on FEC corridor construction

Multiple roadway closures are anticipated over the next several weeks - with most lasting four or five days - as All Aboard Florida continues Phase I construction for their new Brightline express passenger train service from Miami to West Palm Beach.

Supplemental safety infrastructure features funded by the MPO will be installed at grade crossings during these temporary road closures. This will enable local governments along the rail corridor to establish a continuous Quiet Zone from Broward County to West Palm Beach, to coincide with Brightline's new service projected to begin in 2017.

The Palm Beach MPO is committed to providing any necessary support to enable a continuation of the Quiet Zone through northern Palm Beach County when All Aboard Florida proceeds with Phase II construction to Orlando.

Quiet Zones are stretches of rail corridor where the routine blowing of train horns is not required for passenger or freight trains due to the installation of supplemental safety features at roadway crossings along the route.
