MPO Executive Director Nick Uhren will be among webinar presenters representing the Southeast Florida Transportation Council (SEFTC) on June 21. Sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the topic will be "Regional Models of Cooperation: Joint Planning Products." This webinar will explore examples of successful, effective regional cooperation in the transportation planning process and what it takes for collaboration between agencies. SEFTC was created to foster collaboration between the three MPOs from Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

Road Impact Fee Alternatives Ad Hoc Committee

Description: This will be the second meeting of this MPO ad hoc committee to review alternatives to the current road impact fee system used in Palm Beach County in order to mitigate multimodal impacts of new development. Representatives from Palm Beach County and eight municipalities attended the first meeting which was held on June 13.

I-95 Ramp at Indiantown Rd. in Jupiter

An informal open house has been scheduled for the public to discuss the upcoming construction project on the I-95 southbound entrance ramp from westbound Indiantown Rd. in Jupiter. The project will include removing old asphlalt and resurfacing the ramp,; minor widening; applying a high-friction epoxy overlay on the concrete bridge decks, installing wet pavement sensors and triggered flashing warning beacons; and installing new signs and pavement markings. Construction is scheduled to begin June 24, with completion in late summer 2016. Click for notice of Open House.

US-1 from Beach Rd. to County Line Rd. in Tequesta

An informal open house has been scheduled for the public by the Florida Dept. of Transportation (FDOT) to discuss upcoming improvements to the US-1 corridor through the Village of Tequesta. The improvements will transform the area from a commercial corridor built for cars to a more complete streets design to make the area safer and more attractive for pedestrians and bicyclists, better serving the current needs of residents and creating a more vibrant downtown. The project will narrow the section of US-1 from six to four lanes and will add buffered bike lanes in each direction, wider sidewalks, stamped pavement crosswalks, and a new traffic signal and pedestrian scale lighting at the intersection of US-1 and Tequesta Dr. These improvements are scheduled to be under construction from Fall 2017 until Fall 2018. MPO Governing Board Highlights

Highlights of the MPO Governing Board meeting of June 16, 2016:

  • Adopted a Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for Fiscal Years 2017-2021 (July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2021). Click for information on the TIP and to view the plan. Click to view the presentation.
  • Amended the MPO's Priority Projects list for Fiscal years 2017-2021 to include local projects in competition for funding through the SUN Trail program in order for them to be eligible for consideration.

  • Reviewed and discussed a presentation regarding the collection and distribution of funds since 2004 through Palm Beach County's Road Impact Fee program. Click to view the presentation.

Flagler Dr. from 4th St. to the Flagler Memorial Bridge

  • Flagler Drive is closed in both directions around-the-clock until late summer 2016 from 4th St. to the Flagler Memorial Bridge.  
  • Flagler Memorial Bridge Marine Restrictions: Full-channel and half-channel closures of the navigable Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW) through the Flagler Memorial Bridge are underway and will continue through July 2016. The schedule of channel restrictions can be found on the Flagler Bridge website, www.FlaglerBridge.com and is published in the US Coast Guard's Local Notice to Mariners at www.navcen.uscg.gov

Quiet Zones Status

  • Multiple roadway closures are anticipated in upcoming weeks due to rail construction, with most lasting four or five days.
  • Upcoming closures include Yamato Rd. (Boca Raton); Hypoluxo Rd. (Hypoluxo and Lantana); and Atlantic Ave. (Delray Beach)

All local governments within Phase 1 of the All Aboard Florida project have filed Notices of Intent to establish Quiet Zones along the FEC rail corridor. This will allow for a continuous Quiet Zone from Broward County through West Palm Beach when Brightline passenger rail service begins, currently scheduled for 2017. All Aboard Florida continues to install MPO-funded Supplemental Safety Measures to meet requirements for the establishment of the Quiet Zone. Quiet Zones are stretches of rail corridor where the routine blowing of train horns is not required for passenger or freight trains due to the installation of supplemental safety features at roadway crossings along the route. The Palm Beach MPO is committed to providing any necessary support to enable a continuation of the Quiet Zone through northern Palm Beach County when All Aboard Florida proceeds with Phase II construction to Orlando.
